In the physically disconnected world that we live in, social media and an online presence is absolutely essential for most individuals and businesses. A lot of networks and connections are made online; therefore it is more important than ever to show your authenticity and personality by way of a good ‘Head Shot’ photo.
If you work for a company that has employee profiles on their website or you have a thumbnail for your Facebook, LinkedIn or other social media sites (if you are not using a company logo) you need a photo that represents you. You don’t want a terribly lit and slightly inebriated photo that was taken at a work Christmas party or a friends wedding. Nor do you want a photo of you laying on a beach in some tropical location for your last vacation. You need a professional looking photo that is taken by a professional that will represent you and your business to the world. Having a polished looking headshot helps people feel like they know you before you’ve even met.
Your ‘professional’ headshot doesn’t need to be in the style of a stuffy Sears photo circa 1985. You also don’t need to be an actor or have 1 million dollars to get some great shots. My City Photos have some great Head Shot packages at a great price and as always – completely personalised.
Five things to keep in mind if you want to get a professional headshot done:
- Make sure you wear clothing that is appropriate and represents the line of work that you are in.
- Make sure you are prepared and that your clothes are pressed and lint free
- Make sure you clean up nicely. Men, think about how you want to represent yourself in terms of your facial hair.
- Avoid seductive or revealing clothing, wild colours or patterns. You will want the main focus of the photo to be you (your face and your eyes), not your clothes.
- Think about whether you would like to hire a hair and make-up artist. They will be able to apply the right amount of make-up to get the very best look for your headshot.
You never know when someone’s going to request a headshot from you, so it’s good to have one readily available. If you are needing a new headshot, feel free to contact us at info@mycityphotos.ca to get some more details on our great packages.
