From time to time I like to highlight a local business of note and ask those businesses to write an article for our newsletter or blog. David Leith Garden Design is a local landscaping company that makes beautiful gardens a David LOVES what he does. This year he introduced Your Kitchen Garden to allow even condo dwellers the ability to grow their own vegetables. He’s a fount of gardening wisdom and has provided It’s Your Time readers with some November Garden tips.
- Lime your lawn. (Lime takes a long time to be effective, and we want it working next April)
- Clean up and cut back perennials. (It’s a good time to split sedums, irises, crocosmia’s etc , pot-up & give away)
- Great time to plant any tree
- Trim & shear & shape hedges
- Consult an Arborist for winter tree work. Winter is a wonderful time to prune.
- Cut back roses by about 1/3, to prevent damage from snow or harsh winter weather. Clean ALL the rose leaves from the area, as Black Spot over winters. Some even remove all the leaves off of their roses
- Still time to plant Spring bulbs ( even garlic if you do it RIGHT NOW)
- Take pictures now, so planning next year’s garden over the coming winter months will provide references
- Mulch beds and pathways. If you’ve got a string trimmer, pre-shredding leaves (inside a tarp) makes a fabulous mulch.
